My work addresses the question of how and why we make art, and explore the actual process involved.
My work method is a like a conversation between myself and the marks that I make, and the ‘happy accidents’ that occur during the process present challenges that moves the work into a new direction.
I like to use acrylic paint, stencils and masking fluid, along with ink-jet transfers of digitised images to create layered images. I love colour, and make free flowing rhythmic marks set against grids and squares.

This painting was done made over a period of about 8 months. At first it was just the three primary colours of red, yellow and blue, but it needed more interest and depth – this was achieved by adding layers of masking fluid, a black painted layer and then a layer of white spray paint, again with a mask.
The result had the vibrancy of the initial work, and the intricacy and depth of layers, that holds the attention of the viewer.
This commissioned piece for a friend was made while he was away on holiday, and was installed in his living room before he returned! Thankfully it was well received, and is now the centre piece of the room.
A large work, onto MDF board. The grid effect was created by masking fluid running down the painted background before being dusted with a spray of white paint.
