Chris Rees

Artist’s Statement

My work addresses the question of how and why we make art, and explore the actual process involved.

My work method is a like a conversation between myself and the marks that I make, and the ‘happy accidents’ that occur during the process present challenges that moves the work into a new direction.

I like to use acrylic paint, stencils and masking fluid, along with ink-jet transfers of digitised images to create layered images. I love colour, and make free flowing rhythmic marks set against grids and squares.
